Sentha Kamalakanthan C-Tow Bluffers

About Me

I am based in the Toronto Area and work for C-Tow on Lake Ontario. I was raised in Botswana, and I currently reside in the Scarborough Bluffs region, which provides me with the opportunity to connect with the local boating community and the waterways I serve.

It’s a Beautiful Backyard

The area on Lake Ontario where I work for C-Tow spans from the core of Toronto to the east end of Whitby. This includes the surrounding inland waterways, marinas, harbours, and busy recreational boating routes, which I can access quickly throughout the season. It is such a beautiful backyard, and I look forward to serving every call.

Must-See Areas

Some of the most popular boating areas in my region include Toronto Harbour, the Toronto Islands, Port Credit, Whitby, and the waterfront marinas along Lake Ontario. These areas are especially interesting for recreational boaters as they combine scenic views, busy boat traffic, sheltered docking areas, and easy access to restaurants, anchorages, and day-trip destinations. My favourite spots on Lake Ontario include the boat wreckage sites along the shoreline, as there’s so much history to explore and learn about.

History of Marine Training

As a child, swimming was one of my favourite activities, and the water has always felt like home. My love for water activities grew through recreational boating on Lake Simcoe and Lake Ontario. My interest in marine training grew from helping people navigate safely and being prepared at all times.

My current qualifications include the Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC), Pleasure and Small Vessel Operator Performance standards (PVOP and SVOP) and the Small Vessel Driver Basic Safety (SDV‑BS). I have also earned Marine First Aid & CPR/AED and Towing Endorsement (USCG)

What I Like About Working for C-Tow

I work for C-Tow because I enjoy helping boaters when they need it the most, and every call allows me to put my experience to practical use. I also like the variety of calls, the problem-solving, and the chance to support safe and enjoyable boating on my local waterways.

Most Memorable Rescue

Before working for C-Tow, I was taking a joy ride in my partner’s dinghy, and as I was exiting the marina’s entrance, I saw a fishing boat with two men and a paddle. I knew something was wrong, but they did not signal an emergency, so I went out for my ride without hesitation. On my way back, I saw that the boat was quickly approaching the rocks at the marina entrance, so I decided to go over and help them out. The boat propeller fell off, and for some reason, they didn’t ask for help. I towed them back to their marina dock, and they were extremely grateful for the assistance at the right time.

Best Safety Practices to Follow and the Benefits of Becoming a C-Tow Member

My best advice for boaters is to prepare before leaving the dock, not after a problem begins. Always check the weather, fuel, battery power, navigation equipment, and safety gear. Always make sure someone on board and on land knows your route and your plan. It also helps to study the specific waterways you’ll be cruising since local currents, shoals, traffic patterns, and changing conditions can catch even experienced boaters off guard. A simple pre-departure checklist, a charged phone or radio, and a clear understanding of where you are going can prevent many avoidable emergencies.

Joining C-Tow provides boaters with added peace of mind since help is available when they need it, especially if they experience mechanical trouble, a dead battery, a fuel issue, or need a tow. Membership is valuable as it can reduce stress, save time, and provide professional assistance when a day on the water does not go as planned.
